Stoner: “We’re starting from a stronger base than last year”

Australian rider is “really satisfied” with the Ducati Desmosedici GP10 after the test at Sepang.
Casey Stoner was the second fastest rider of the second official MotoGP test of the year at the Sepang International Circuit which finished on Friday, and the Australian’s feedback on the Desmosedici GP10 of the Ducati Marlboro team was extremely positive.
Stoner’s lap of 2’00.512 from 33 laps on Friday was an improvement on his Thursday time, and left him feeling positive ahead of the final pre-season test in Qatar from March 18-19.
“When we first went out this morning the track conditions were a huge improvement on yesterday thanks to the slightly cooler temperatures, which meant the track was less slippery,” he said. “That allowed us to get the best out of the bike and we were able to set some fast times. We started out with the same setting we finished with yesterday, which I already liked, and we changed just a couple of things and were able to immediately set a strong pace. It is just a shame that the red flag came out right after we put the new medium tyre on. I missed out on a few laps because of that but it wasn’t a big deal.”
Stoner added: “We are really satisfied with the package we have now and the progress we have made so far. If you ask me I’d say we are starting off from a stronger base than last year so now we’ll just have to wait and see if we can get straight on the pace in Qatar.”

Super quick Rossi beats pole record at Sepang

The final day of the Sepang test concluded with Valentino Rossi not only faster than his pole position time from the 2009 GP, but also extremely happy with the “great shape” of the M1 prototype.

The close of the second pre-season test at Sepang on Friday saw Valentino Rossi at the head of the timesheet once again, and this time the Italian was faster than his own pole position record set at the circuit for the 2009 Shell Advance Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
A fastest lap of 2’00.271 was almost three-tenths of a second quicker, as Rossi spent the final day of the test trying electronic packages, a new tyre for Bridgestone, and evaluating the overall work done so far on the M1.
“I’m really happy to have beaten my pole record, it’s a good feeling to be this fast in testing,” said Rossi. “I did this with an old tyre but we also got the chance to try a very good new tyre from Bridgestone today, which I hope we will use from the first race. Our bike is in great shape; we need to do a bit more work on the electronics but in general everything is better, especially the rear grip and the engine. Yamaha have been very clever in developing this new bike whilst keeping the best parts of the old one.”
Rossi also did a few laps on the Yamaha test team’s bike, providing important feedback for future developments of the M1, and he is now looking forward to the final pre-season test in Qatar from March 18-19.
“It was good to get the chance to try the Japanese test bike, hopefully the feedback I gave them will help us in the future,” added Rossi. “Now we go to Qatar and then we will see our level because it is not one of mine or Yamaha’s best tracks! But we’re in great shape and this is very important at this stage of the season. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Aussie superbike title kicks off at Phillip Island

The 2010 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship (ASC) has kicked off at Phillip Island, with the only remaining Japanese factory team, Suzuki, squaring off against new teams from the likes of Ducati, Aprilia and KTM.
Suzuki’s Josh Waters will defend his title in 2010, with his main opposition set to come from his evergreen teammate Shawn Giles, Ducati’s Jamie Stauffer, the KTM of Shannon Johnson, and the privateer Hondas of Wayne Maxwell, 2008 champion Glenn Allerton and Bryan Staring.
Daniel Stauffer will also compete on an Aprilia, completing the fresh injection of European marques into the championship following the official withdrawal of Kawasaki and Yamaha at the end of last season.
All the riders will be on a Dunlop control tyre.
Waters is quietly confident that he can continue his scintillating form of 20098, which saw him, win the championship as a rookie.
“The GSX-R1000 is the class leader and Team Suzuki is the best team out there,” Waters said. “I am not going to discount any other riders, but I truly believe we have the continued and consistent support needed to win at this level.
“Phil (Tainton) and the boys have done a great job preparing the bikes during pre-season testing and I am confident we will stand on top of the podium come Sunday afternoon.”
Maxwell and Waters were the form riders at the end of last year, but Maxwell’s late title charge evaporated when he crashed spectacularly in the final round. He eventually finished third in the championship, behind his then teammate Allerton.
“I started slow last year, it was my first year back racing superbikes, and my speed came in the latter part of the championship,” Maxwell said. “Testing has gone well and Demolition GAS Honda has done an amazing job to give me a bike capable of winning the title.
“Racing is not about making friends on the track – it’s about winning and that’s what GAS and Honda are expecting.”
Maxwell’s team will operate under Honda’s satellite sponsorship umbrella, along with the Full throttle Sports team of Staring.
Other superbike entries to look out for include the Ducatis of John Allen, Craig McMartin and Jordan Burgess, the Suzuki of Scott Charlton.
The Superstock 1000 class, which will race alongside the superbikes, is also shaping as a cracker, with Chris Trounson (KTM), Dustin Goldsmith (Yamaha), Ben Henry (Suzuki), former 500cc rider Brendan Clarke (Honda) and Ben Attard (Ducati) the main protagonists.
In today’s opening practice sessions at Phillip Island, Waters set the superbike pace with a best lap of 1:34.803, just ahead of Maxwell (1:34.857). The leading duo was followed by Giles (1:35.668), Jamie Stauffer (1:36.092), Charlton (1:36.488), Johnson (1:36.788), Staring (1:36.944) and Allerton (1:37.069).
A majority of the riders set their fastest laps in this morning’s opening session when the track temperature was much cooler.
Qualifying for the superbikes will be held tomorrow afternoon, followed by two 12-lap races on Sunday.
Phillip Island will also host the opening round dif the national title for the supersport and superstock 600 classes, as well as races for historic bikes.

Crossing the moonscape Mojave under a gray wool sky, large rain drops splatter on my face shield as I glance down at the cockpit display. The full-color screen, nestled between the large analog speedo and tach, dutifully indicates it’s 41 degrees F outside, the cruise control is set at 70 mph and my iPod is now playing the ambient, abstract sounds of Bowery Electric. Sitting comfortably at the helm with grip warmers on high, nothing is out of place, everything fits. My 800-mile round trip to Arizona and back through cold wind, heavy rain and variable road conditions provided the perfect opportunity to test the Can-Am Spyder RT-S.
When we got our hands on a Spyder in 2008, I packed my gear and hit the road for 2,600 miles. The Y-configuration stance and Bosch-engineered Vehicle Stability System were perfect for touring, but the base-model Spyder (now called the RS) was short on amenities. For 2010, three touring models are available—RT ($20,999), RT Audio and Convenience ($22,999) and the full-boat RT-S ($24,999) tested here—each with a long list of new features. All have integrated side bags, a rear trunk and generous accommodations for the rider and passenger, with more futuristic styling and dimensions that are 0.8 inch longer and 2.6 inches wider than the RS.

World’s most luxurious trike?
February 23, 2010 by martin
“Push it to the limit and beyond.” This should be the motto behind this amazing trike project that we recently came across while surfing the web. It is more like a limo trike built in the hot rod style and powered by a Volkswagen motor, but these are all car words. What makes it appear on the motorcycle page of this website is the Harley-Davidson Fat Boy front end. This last “detail” and the fancy limousine-like interior could easily turn this into the world’s most luxurious trike if an award will ever be given for this.

Sexy bikers: custom bike needs no airbag

Through this post, we’re trying to say that although the motorcycle industry is successfully trying to implement motorcycle airbags (see the Honda Goldwing), some users just don’t need any whatsoever as they have their own to serve and protect them. For instance, this sexy chick may have very well found them in an accessories catalog and they say these things do their job beautifully even when the user is not riding. Great!

Top 10 Most Powerful Motorcycles

If you are young at heart, then it is obvious for you to be crazy about power bikes. Recognizing the popularity of powerful motorcycles, many companies have started producing big giant motorcycles having bristling power. Earlier at the mention of powerful motorcycles the name of Harley Davidson and Enfield came to our mind but now the scenario has changed.
Companies like Honda, Suzuki etc are coming to the forefront and manufacturing powerful bikes. Let me make you familiar with the 10 most powerful bikes. They are not arranged in any order as people have different views about performance.
On the top end of the pecking order is the Honda VTX 1800 manufactured in the year 2000. This is one giant of a motorcycle. Its 1800 cc engine provides it enormous power. Honda used a 101mm bore and 112mm stroke to make around 1,795cc of liquid cooled power giving around 89.1hp and 102.25 foot-pounds of torque. The Five-speed Gearbox along with the driveshaft gives power to the back wheel. The bike is highly maneuverable and gives you full comfort while riding. Honda VTX 1800 is a giant shadow 750” cruiser motorcycle.
Harley-Davidson CVO manufactured in 1999 is a moving power house. It has a powerful 1800 cc engine. Harley’s have used a 96 cubic inch twin cam motor. They have used 101.6mm bore and 110 mm stroke to create high power. It gives an 81.46hp output and around 95.58 foot-pounds of torque. Harley-Davidson weights around 694 pounds dry. Though it is costly, it provides you all the power and comfort that you need.
Suzuki Boulevard M109R is a real monster. It has a modern 54-degree liquid cooled DOHC. Boulevard provides you with an 1800cc engine. it gives you a 106.4 hp power output and 101.3 pound-feet of torque with a outstandingly linear HP curve as close to 45-degree. Suzuki Boulevard M109R weights around 703 pounds dry.
DUCATI Monster S2R as the name suggest is a monster with a maximum speed of 300 miles per hour. It has a powerful engine and is highly maneuverable. It is comfortable and easy to handle. The clutch is smooth. YAMAHA V Star Tourer is one huge big machine, which provides you a smooth and comfortable ride. Its highly powerful engine has got all the power that you need to enjoy your ride.
Harley-Davidson’s V-Rod with a top most speed of 114 mph is another hot contender among top power bikes. It has a thrilling amount of power and a chassis along with suspension package that handles it. It is the most balanced bike. It has strong braking system and is attractive to look at. It’s an ideal bike for most cruiser lovers. Close on its heels is Yamaha’s V-Max which incidentally gives an enormous power output. Its combined weight and gearing makes it accelerate harder. It gives a high torque and has accurate steering.
Triumph’s Rocket III is all rounder in all fields. It is the king in terms of horsepower. It gives 132.4 ponies at 6250rpm. It also rules the torque chart giving a 141.0 foot-pounds at only 2500 rpm. It has an attractive body to lure anyone.
Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 is another favorite cruiser bike available. It gives a torque of around 121.4 foot-pounds at 3250 rpm. It has good brakes and the Kawasaki crew has done a good job in balancing its chassis against the torque. It is an ultimate gift from Kawasaki to its lover.
